What is a
Tournament
A rummy tournament is actually a competition which holds a pre defined number of players, as the winner is the remaining player of all players.
Each tournament has a name, a date a game room and entry fee which are pre determined and published ahead of schedule to allow the participants to prepare to the scheduled date.
If for example a 40 participating player tournament is being held, the entry fee to the tournament is $5, the registration to the tournament is open prior to the tournament (for just enough time to allow the number of players the tournament can hold to register). The moment all of the 40 players registered for the tournament, the registration will be closed for new participants and the tournament will begin at the scheduled time. The winning prizes are set by the rummy room and they are advertised with the tournament details.
When the tournament time arrives, the players are divided into number of tables, in our example – 10 tables, as in each table 4 players will play. During the tournament players who will lose the number of points (chips) they have will be eliminated from the tournament.
Tables which will be emptied from eliminated players will be joined together with other emptied tables, this is a situation which lasts until we get to the final table, and this is the last table before the end of the tournament.
In the game of Rummy, the final table is a 4 player table when the winner is the one who eliminates all the other players and the last to stay. Sometimes the prizes are divided to the first 3 places in a tournament, usually in a high number of participant tournaments and mostly the amount is handed only to the first place winner.
Usually the tournaments draw a large number of players, these players can In a relatively low investment climb to very high ranking during the tournament and maybe even ensure themselves high value money prizes.
Many of the tournaments being held by the Rummy rooms are
freerolls (free tournaments), this means with no entry free.
These tournaments draw more relatively new players who still didn't deposit real money and they are given the opportunity of winning this kind of tournament, as usually the money prizes in the freerolls are relatively low.
This means that as higher the entry fees to a tournament be the higher the money prizes. This is also a way to measure the level of players.
