Rummy
School - Lesson 7 - Memory
Your memory is the most important element and a key device you have in the rummy game. Especially when you start to experience the Traditional rummy version or the Kalooki version, In both games your memory can affect the whole game and determine the score of the game.
As you probably learned in the rules of each version, in the traditional rummy and Kalooki versions you play with 2 decks of cards, 52 cards in each deck, this means that each card appears twice.
If you play a 4 player game, and you desire a certain card which is missing in order to complete a series, it's very important to follow the moves of the other participants in order to try and remember which cards were already discarded.
If you know that each card only exists twice, and the same card you need was already discarded by one of the participants and you can't take it, you will need to change your game strategy and change the cards in your hand in order to arrange other sets or runs which won't require that discarded card and you lost hope of getting that card during this game.
This is why the memory is a key element. If you remember which cards were discarded during each game more or less by the other players, you can build your hand according to this information and try to create sets or runs with cards that you can still get during the game.
Even when you are done with your move, you need to always follow the moves of the other players, stay focused and efficient, this can be critical for the future of your game if you want to make money.
As we mentioned in a previous lesson, to forget the discarded cards and count on these cards to appear during the game is the most common mistake among the rummy players. If you know how to correct this mistake and try not to make it you will increase your chances to overcome your opponents.
If practice your memory well in the traditional rummy and the Kalooki game, you will be easier with using this element in the Gin and Oklahoma versions in which you play with a single deck of cards, this means that each card is only played once, and you will be easier to remember if you already missed your chance with the same desired card.
