Rummy
School - Lesson 11 - Location
We mentioned in
Lesson 5, that Rummy players have no control over the order of their seating around the rummy table, as in each round the order is determined by a single card which is dealt to each of the players and whoever has the highest card is the first who begins to play and so on until the lowest card which was dealt to the player who plays last at that round.
What we didn't mention in lesson 5 is very important, the pros and cons of each of the locations. With this on mind we have to mention that the Rummy game can be played up to 4 players in each table, this is why we will deal with 2 main seats out of the 4 available: the First and the Last.
The First Seat:
When you were chosen to be the first to start you were given the right to draw the first card which was revealed to be the
discard pile. Everybody will wait to watch your move and how it will affect the rest of the round. You will have a certain advantage in time over the other players in more advanced rounds during the game.
The Last Seat:
When you were chosen to be the last player who ends each round you were given the opportunity to stay mysterious in a way. You are the one who gets to see everybody's moves and decide how to play accordingly at the end of each round.
Even in the first round of the game when it's your turn to play you will know more or less in which strategy you should act and keep playing, whether due to the fact your competitors discarded cards you need and you won't have the option of having the back again during the game, whether it's the ability of seeing and knowing how each of the players play and whether he takes cards which were discarded you will know more or less what the player is counting on to come in the future.
According to statistics and our results, it's better to be the last player playing the game. Mostly, this player is the winning player or the one who stays with the lowest amount of cards for the long run.
