Rummy Games
- Oklahoma
The Oklahoma rummy version is common mostly in Canada and north America.
Similarly to the Gin version, this version is shorter than the other version and an average round lasts between 2.5 and 3 minutes.
The game is played with one
deck of 52 cards with no
Jokers as the Ace card is with a 1 point value only and you can't use it after the King card.
The Oklahoma version is very similar to the
Gin rummy version, the difference between these version is one rule:
In the Gin game you can perform a
Knock when you have a value of 10 points and lower whereas in the Oklahoma the minimum of points which the player requires in order to knock is determined by the first card which is revealed in the discard pile after the dealing of the cards to the players at the beginning of the game.
This means that if for example the first card is 7, than the final move must be done when the player who performed the move has 7 points of value and lower.
In the Oklahoma version like the Gin Rummy version, the
drawing of the cards varies according to the number of players participating in a game. In a 2 players game, 10 cards are dealt for each player, and in a 3-4 player game, 7 cards are dealt for each player.
The object of the game is to create series and get left with as less points as possible, if you perform a Knock then the number of points which are supposed to stay in your hand should be less than the number of the first card which is revealed in the
discard pile after the dealing of the cards to the players.
You can win this game by going Gin when you have no cards left in your hands or by
melding all the series at once. This move will give you an additional 25 points bonus.
Much like the Gin game, if you performed a Knock, it doesn't necessarily mean that you will win the game. If one of the players gets left with a lower value of points than you have, he will be the winner and you will be fined with 10 negative points. This move is called an
Undercut.
Please note – if you are participating in an
elimination tourney playing the Oklahoma game, try to stay with as less points as possible for a chance you get caught losing.
If you feel you are not going to win the game, get rid of the high cards and keep the lower ones in your hand.
The Oklahoma game combines both knowledge a high strategic skill, in this game usually high sophisticated and intelligent players with long time experience in the rummy game are playing.
