Rummy Games
- Kalooki
The Kalooki game is the most popular
rummy game version in England, France and part of the European countries.
The Kalooki game is considered the longest game among all the rummy game version and it last in average for 4-4.5 minutes for 1 round of game.
The game is played with 2
decks of 52 cards each + 2
Jokers, totaling in 106 cards, whereas each card appears twice. For each player 13 cards are dealt.
The object of the game is to be the first player who finish all the cards in his hand with building series with the value of 51 points and up as the condition to
melding the cards to the table. Below this value you can't meld the cards.
The Jokers spice up the game and make it more interesting and attractive.
A joker can be used instead of any card and it's value is 25. The Ace card has double value either of 1 or 11, it can be used in low value series like 1,2,3 when it's value is 1 and also in high value ones like: Q, K, A or A,A,A when the Ace card value is 11.
You can end and win this game in 2 ways:
1. The first to finish the cards in your hand.
2. The first to meld all the cards in your hand in one move which is called a Hunt. Performing this move entitles the player to an additional 25 points.
In the Kalooki game you can add cards to series which are already placed on the table only if you already melded your cards with 51 and above. If you still didn't meld your cards, you can't add cards to missing series, even if you have such cards. If you melded and you desire to add cards to existing series you are entitled to do so, If you'd like you can replace the Joker card which is placed in one of the series to a running series, for example: 7, 8, Joker, 10 heart shaped, If you have 9 heart shaped you are allowed to place it instead of the Joker and use the Joker in a different variation in which you desire.
A different example would be: 10, 10, Joker (different shapes) you can replace the Joker only if you have the 2 missing 10s in this series.
• Please note, at the end of each move the player has to
discard a card. The player can't meld all the cards arranged in series without discarding any card.
• In the Kalooki version only – if a player finishes all of the cards in his hand he is considered a winner, and the other players can't meld their cards even if they have certain series and cards they can add to existing series.
• If you participate in the
elimination tourneys in Kalooki, it's important to hurry up and meld 51 and up and get rid of the cards in your hand as quickly as possible, don't hesitate so you won't be caught with many negative points in hand.
