Gin
Rummy
Gin Rummy is the most popular of the
rummy games.
The game can hold between 2-4 players. The cards which are dealt to each player vary in their dependencies against the number of players. In a 2 player game, 10 cards are dealt for each player, and in a 3-4 player game, 7 cards are dealt for each player.
In the Gin Rummy game, only one
deck of 52 cards is being played with no jokers.
The cards and their value:
The face cards – J, Q, K (10 points).
Ace – 1 point.
The number cards – equal to the to their stated value.
The process of the game:
The
dealer is chosen randomly, the cards are dealt to the players and one card is placed facing up, revealed to the rest of the players, this card indicated the beginning of the game.
The first player who starts is allowed to take the unveiled card is he desires.
The object of the game:
The object of the gin rummy game is to be the first player who arrange the cards in his hands in series and leaves, if at all, the value of 10 points and less, this move is called a
Knock.
If the players completely finished ordering the cards in his hands in series without leaving a single non matching card he is winning by a move which is call "Gin" which adds him an additional 25 points bonus over his competitors.
After the ending move, the other players are given the option of revealing the cards in their hands, to meld series they built, to add cards to series
melded by the other players (excluding series the player who gone gin melded.) and try and stay with the minimal number of points in his hand of non matching cards.
If the player is left with a lower number of points than the player who knocked, this move will be considered a "Deadwood" and the last player will win the game and win an additional 10 points bonus.
Example:
A player who knocked, melded all of the matching series in his hand and left with a total value of 8 points. The next player is allowed to reveal the cards in his hand which he melds, add cards to series which the player who knocked melded and eventually is left with cards with the total value of less than 8 points. In this case the last player is the one who wins the game even though he is not the one who performed the finishing move, and in addition he will be entitled to 10 extra bonus points.
In the game of gin similar to the other rummy game versions the basic rules are the same. Drawing cards, arranging the cards in the hand and discarding a card we don't need.
Please note: In the game of
Gin Rummy, the Ace is always considered with the value of 1 and you can't build a running series with the cards Q and K.
Tip: In a more advanced stage of the game, if you feel you are not even close to doing the finishing move, it is highly recommended to get rid of high value cards and stay with the lower value cards in order to be counted as less negative points if you lose the game.
