Rummy Information

Rummy is a group of card games which includes several versions which share the same basis of game with rules and objects which varies from one game to the other. The object of the game in general is to build and match series from the cards you receive as a player.

When referring to the rummy game we first ascribe this game to the family game which basically unites the family together and brings them closer once in a while to play this game.

The most popular version of the rummy game is the Gin Rummy version which is mostly common in the USA and North America and its rules is known world wide. There are other versions as for almost every country its own rummy game variation.

Some say that the first rummy game version was actually invented in Mexico and it is called Coniquan and from this version other versions of the game were developed and there are currently many versions under the same family which is called Rummy.

Each version differs from the other with different rules and objectives and all share the same common denominator and ending:

1. Each player draws a card at the beginning of his turn whether from the discard pile or the deck pile.

2. After drawing the card the player needs to arrange the cards into series.

3. At the end of each turn the player needs to discard a card to the discard pile and so ends the turn of that player.

These are the 3 rules which are used in all the Rummy game versions and the object of the game is to be the first to finish all the cards in the hand – this will count as the winning move of the game. A series is count as one when it includes 3 cards and above when there are 2 types of series – a set and a run.

The Set is basically a series which contains between 3 and 4 cards with the same value only different shapes for example Q diamonds, Q hearts and Q spades.

The Run is a series which contains at least 3 cards and is arranged from a running up series of cards with the same shape for example 3,4,5,6,7 hearts shaped.
