How to
play the card game gin rummy
Gin Rummy: Each normal turn is a two-part turn. (1) Your first move is to draw a card, either from the stock pile or the top discard, and place it into your hand. Because the discard pile is face up, you have the advantage of seeing what you are getting beforehand. The stock will be face down, so any choice from that pile will be unknown. If you take a card from the pile, you simply put the card in your hand without letting the other players see it. Discarding: To complete your turn you must discard one card from your hand, and place it face up on the discard pile. Suppose you take the top card from the discard pile, you now have to discard a different card -- if you remove the top discard you are not allowed to place the same card back. The draw is done differently than other draws on the first turn of the hand. The first choice of whether to take the turned-up card goes to the person who did not deal. The dealer may take the card if the non-dealer declines it. If neither player wants the turned-up card, then the non-dealer is granted the first turn and draws from the stock pile. The card games player who picked up a card finishes their turn by throwing out a card at which point the other player has an opportunity to play.
