When it comes to online rummy there are a number of different variations that you can choose to play. This post will give you a brief overview of these variations.

Gin Rummy:

Gin Rummy is probably one of the better known versions of online rummy games.  This game uses a standard deck of 52 cards for two players.  There are other variations of this game too and these include Oklahoma Gin.  Gin Rummy is very popular online and there are plenty of great Gin Rummy tournaments that you can take part in.

Rummy 500:

Rummy 500 uses a single deck of 52 cards and 2 of the jokers.  This game is for 2 to 8 players.  The main objective of this online rummy game is to get 500 points first and dispose of all your cards.

Canasta:

Canasta uses 2 decks of cards and 4 jokers when playing with 4 or 5 players 3 decks of cards with 6 jokers are used when there are 6 players.  Each player in this game is dealt 11 cards.  Canasta is different to other online rummy variations and the card values are also different.  The players in this online rummy game are required to make Canastas which is a meld of 7 or more cards.  Players must aim to get rid of all of their cards by melding and getting rid of their last card on the discard pile.

Kalooki Rummy:

Kalooki rummy is played using two decks of cards and 2 jokers.  A minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 players can take part in this online rummy game.  The objective of this game is to create sets and run with you cards and try to get rid of all your cards before your opponents.

There are some obvious differences in the online rummy variations but the basic structure for each game is more or less the same.  The difference usually lies in the number of decks used and the value of the cards.  If you are planning on taking up online rummy a good suggestion is to join online rummy website Rummy Royal because they allow you to play for free and practice all your skills and strategies before you play for real money.
