If you are new to the game of online rummy you may find it difficult to grasp all the associated terms and game play strategies.  Rummy started as a skill based card game and the online rummy version of this traditional card game remains the same.  Online rummy has become extremely successful over the past numbers of year and players from all over the world can now battle it out against each other thanks to online rummy website.

The online rummy game involves skill and strategies and once you master these you will improve your chances of winning.  There are a number of variations of the traditional rummy game that you will find on online rummy websites.  These online rummy variations do however share most of the same objectives and play structure so learning these is quite easy once you have the traditional rummy game mastered.

Online rummy is a game for two or four people but there are some variations that will allow you to have up to six players.  When playing online rummy you will have a fixed number of deals or a target score that must be achieved.  This is determined prior to the game starting.  All online rummy games contain a certain scoring chart and if there are any variations these will be associated with face cards, aces and jokers.

When it comes down to the game of online rummy it can be broken down into two different categories which are ring games and tournaments.  In ring games the objective is to dispose of all of your cards by forming as many melds as you can and then laying them down on the table.  You are playing against your opponent and looking to has as few cards as possible left which is known as deadwood.  This deadwood affects your score.

When it comes to online rummy tournaments there are two choices as well.  There are multi rounds and elimination tournaments.  When playing in multi-round tournaments your objective is to score the highest amount of points.  When playing in elimination tournaments you are looking to eliminate your opponents until you are the last person on the table.  As the winner you will receive the highest amount of money that is being gambled on the game.

If you want to learn the skills and strategies that are associated with online rummy then you might want to check out the Rummy Royal website where you will find some great guides and tutorials.  This website is also the number one online rummy website too and they feature some really great tournaments too.

Gin Rummy is a game for 2 players and it is a variation of the traditional rummy game.  In order to win this rummy variation you have to score 100 or 250 points.  The number of points is determined at the start of the game.  There are a number of ways that you can score points in Gin Rummy and one of these is going gin.

Going gin is the most difficult when it comes to playing gin rummy but it can be done.  All you need to do is put all your cards into combinations and if you can do this you get 25 points plus the sum of whatever your opponent has failed to put into combinations.  This is called deadwood.  If you manage to do all this and you are going to go gin you still need to pick up or discard a card before you do this.

Another way of scoring in gin rummy is by knocking.  You can knock instead of putting all your cards into combinations.  If you have put as many of your cards as possible into combinations but still have some remaining and the value of them is less than 10 then you can knock and put all your cards on the table.  Once you knock the play stops and your score is calculated from your deadwood cards.  If your opponents deadwood is greater than yours you get the difference between the two added to your score.  If your opponent’s deadwood is less than yours then he wins the round and gets the score.  You will never really know if knocking is to your advantage and the only thing I will advise is that you only knock if your deadwood is less than 10.

These are the two basic ways of scoring points when playing gin rummy and the game will end when one person reaches the agreed upon score.  Oklahoma Gin which is another variation of gin rummy is a little different and in this game you can only knock if your deadwood is less than or equal to the upcard.  If the upcard is an ace then you can’t knock and you can only win by going gin.

When playing gin rummy if you are going to knock you need to do it as early in the game as possible because the longer the games goes one the harder it gets to win when you knock.

That is really it when it comes to scoring in Gin Rummy.  The main thing is that you need to practice your strategies and you can do this by playing free gin rummy games online.  Once you have perfected your strategies you can then play the great online gin rummy games that have cash prizes.
