Today I want to discuss the best gin rummy strategy that you can use when playing online gin rummy.  The general rules of gin rummy are very simple.  You take a card, discard a card, and try to win.  This may sound easy but gin rummy is far more complex and this game is very strategic.

This gin rummy strategy that I am going to explain to you should help you to improve your game.  The first and most important thing is to remember which cards have been discarded by your opponent.  You should always try to be aware of what your opponent choices to take from the discard pile too as this will give you an insight into his hand.

When you start playing gin rummy the first thing that you should decide to do is play for a knock rather than going for gin.  The bonus you get for winning the game is significant and to do this you need to develop a hand that consists of melds, a triangle, or a knock cache as quickly as you can.  When you get one of the four cards that you need to create a meld from a triangle then you can knock.

Middle cards are more important strategically than low or face cards.  Middle cards can be use a lot more in sets and runs.  7 is the best card to have.  Runs that end with aces or kings are less valuable so try to avoid these.  Don’t take a card from the discard pile unless it makes or increases your meld.

Try not to help your opponent.  You need to pay attention to what they discard and think carefully about the cards you reveal.  If your opponent picks up one of your discards try to deduce whether it is being used to make a set or a sequence.  Keep your eyes on what they do and if you have a card that you think will help them increase or make a meld then keep it.

If you have four or more 10 point cards that are unmatched get rid of them early.  Don’t be predictable though.  If you start throwing away kings in every game you play your opponents will soon catch on and start keeping their knowing that you will throw them down.

Always knock as soon as you can because the longer you delay the more chances you give your opponent to beat your knock.

These are just some simple strategies that you can use in gin rummy and they should help to increase your winning streak.

For this week I want to focus the blog posts on Gin Rummy. The first post I have for you is on gin rummy playing tips.  There are a number of great tips in this post that should put you on your way to winning big with online gin rummy.

  1. Try to be the first person to knock.  To do this you need to put together two matching melds and four or fewer unmatched low cards.
  2. Try to make triangles in your hand.  A card triangle will give you the best possible way to form a future meld.  An example of this could be a 4 of clubs, 4 of diamonds, and a 5 of hearts.  If you can create a hand that consists of melds, a triangle and a knock of low cards as early as possible you have a better chance of winning.
  3. Take from the discard pile for melds only.  A good rule to adopt is to only draw from the discard pile when you want to complete or add to a meld.
  4. Middle cards are always better.  The most useful card in gin rummy is the 7.  This card works in more combinations that any other. The least useful card is the Ace or the King.
  5. Throw away big cards early.  If you start with four or more unmatched 10 point cards you need to get rid of these as early as possible.  You might want to keep one high card triangle but if this is unfilled after 6 or 7 draws discard it safely.
  6. Knock as soon as you can.  You might not make Gin but you are more likely to pick up points this way.
  7. An undercut is always better than getting ginned.  If you have a choice between an undercut on your knock of the risk of discarding a card that will give your opponent gin then you should knock.  The reasoning here is that your opponent is more likely to gin than they are to uncut you and the loss you face when they gin is greater than when they undercut.

That’s it for the gin rummy playing tips for this post.  Tomorrow I plan on covering gin rummy strategy but for not try to put into practice these great gin rummy playing tips and see if you can improve on your game.

Red Hot Rummy is an online Gin Rummy website.  They have thousands of registered players from a total of 130 countries worldwide.  On this online rummy website you can have a free play or a real money account.  This website is dedicated to the game of Gin Rummy and it is packed full of excellent features and promotions too.

You can choose from a range of different Gin Rummy formats and games are available 24 hours a day.  Red Hot Rummy also has a skill school where you can learn all the tips and strategies you will need to succeed in Gin Rummy.  They also have chat rooms where you can chat with other players and get to enjoy the social aspect of online rummy too.

This month Red Hot Rummy has extended their daily tournament schedule and they have also introduced some hot multiplayer games that players can enjoy too.  These games are backgammon and blackjack.  Along with these two games there is also a game called In The Grid which is based on a TV game show.  There is also a sea battle strategy game too for when you want a break from Gin Rummy.  You can play these additional games every week and on Wednesdays at 6pm there is a Blackjack £2,150 freeroll tournament.  On Sundays at 4.30pm and again at 6pm there is a Backgammon £1,500 freeroll and easyroll tournament.

One of the things I liked about Red Hot Rummy is the fact that you can have unlimited practice play on their games for free and when you want to deposit money and play for real you can.  Registering for an account is simple and you don’t have to deposit any money until you are ready to do so.

This online rummy website also has a fair play guarantee and when you register with their website as a rookie you can only play against other rookies.  You can progress then to amateur and pro status.  This means that you always have a fair chance of winning some real cash and this is great.

Rummy Royal is one of the most popular online rummy websites not that there really are that many to choose from.  This month they have a new promotion running that is called the Rummy Royal Jackpot Month.  This promotion is open to all registered players and up for grabs is a jackpot of $250.

It might not seem like a huge jackpot but this isn’t a tournament and it seems fairly good to me.  In order to be in with a chance of claiming the jackpot of $250 all you have to do is win five games in a row on one of the jackpot tables for this promotion.  The jackpot tables are the Kalooki 51 tables that have buy ins for $3.25 and $11.

In order to claim the prize you have to have five consecutive wins.  This means that you must win five games in a row and all five wins must happen within a 48 hour period.  If you happen to lose one game at the jackpot table you are playing on then you will break your winning streak and you will have to start all over again.  If you win at any other table this is not counted toward the jackpot prize and you must win your games on the jackpot table.

If you win five games in a row and you are eligible to claim $250 all you have to do is send an email to customer support stating the date of your first jackpot table win.  The $250 will then be lodged into your account within 24 hours.

This promotion runs for the entire month and if you were to win five games in a row every day then at the end of the month you will have won for yourself a whopping $7,750.  That’s really not that bad at all now is it?

Don’t forget, you have to be a registered player with Rummy Royal to take part in this promotion and there are plenty of other great freerolls and tournaments running all the time too so be sure to check out their website for more information.
