Kalooki Rummy Objective

Kalooki Rummy is another variation of the traditional rummy game and it is very similar to Gin Rummy.  The object of Kalooki is to be the first person to run out of cards and this will win you the hand.  You score is then calculated and more hands will be played.  At the end of the Kalooki rummy session the player with the most points will win the overall game.

At the beginning of the game a specific number of hands will be determined or else there will be a predetermined points value that must be reached in order to win the game.

Kalooki is played using two standard decks of cards plus 2 jokers.  This means there is a total of 106 cards used and up to four players can be included in a game.  When a player wins a hand in Kalooki rummy by going out or going Kalooki all the cards remaining in their opponents hands are then added up.  The total of these cards is that score for the winning player.  Cards are scored by their face value from 2 to 10.  Face cards are 10 points each and Aces are 1 point.  If a player goes Kalooki then all the other players must take a penalty of 25 points which is subtracted from their overall score.

When playing Kalooki online, the game will begin with each player drawing one card.  The highest card will determine who the dealer will be.  Cards are then shuffled and cut and then each player is dealt 10 cards.  A final card is then placed face up to start the game.  The remaining cards are placed face down and this is the stock pile.  Players take it in turns and they must draw a card from the stock pile and then end their turn by placing a card on the discard pile.  The game continues this way until one player runs out of cards and then the score is calculated.  When the draw pile only has 2 cards left the hand will end and there will be no winner.  A new hand will then be dealt.

In the next post I will discuss the glossary of terms that you need to be familiar with in order to play Kalooki Rummy.

Until next time,

Deal Those Cards,
