In order to give you the best advice when it comes to Gin Rummy you will first need to learn how to play Gin Rummy.  Gin rummy uses a standard pack of 52 cards and each player is dealt one of their cards face up to start the game.  The player with the highest value will start first and the play goes clockwise around the table.  The purpose of the game is to build melds and combination by picking up and discarding cards when it is your turn.  You win by calling Gin, knocking, or undercutting.

Building a strategy for gin rummy can be quite complex but there are a few thing that you can try. The first thing is to remember that because only one deck of cards is used you should be able to keep track of the cards that have been used.  By following the cards that have been used you will be able to choose your melds and combinations easier.  You should also try to draw from the stock pile more so than the discard pile as this will keep your opponents guessing as to what cards you are looking for.  You should also try to keep an eye on the cards your opponent picks up from the discard pile as this will give you an insight into what they are trying to build.  If your opponents are seasoned players they may try to discard their high cards so that they can lower their deadwood count.  You can take advantage of this by working on building high card melds and combinations.

If the game is dragging on and you are finding it difficult to build melds and combinations then it is a good idea to try to discard of your higher cards so that if you end up knocking you won’t be beaten by your opponents undercutting you.

By playing regularly and improving your strategies you will be well on your way to taking part in many of the online rummy tournaments that are available.  These tournaments can win you large sums of money if you know how to play your cards right.

Until next time,
