In the last post we explored the objective of Rummy and in today’s post I am going to explain how to play the different variations of rummy. The first variation is Gin Rummy.
Gin Rummy is a classic variation of this skill based card game. Gin rummy is very easy to both learn and play and it is a relatively quick and exciting game too. The winner is the first person to dispose of all his cards at once. This move is called Gin. There is another way of winning and this is called knocking. This is where you dispose of all your cards at once and making sure that your deadwood is less than 10. If your opponents deadwood is less than your when you knock then they will undercut you and they win.
Oklahoma Gin is a variant on Gin rummy. This game is for two to four players. With 2 players each gets 10 cards, more than 2 players each gets 7 cards. The object of this game is to form as many melds as you can. This game is won in the same way as Gin rummy.
Kalooki 51 is next. This variation of rummy uses jokers as wild cards. These help to spice things up and provide players with a number of opportunities to use their skills. In this variation the melds a player creates must reach a total of 51 or more before they can be laid down. The winner is the first person to dispose of all of his cards at once which is called a Hunt. You can also win by going out which is where you dispose of your cards by gradually melding and building.
Kalooki 40 is the British version of Kalooki 51. In this variant melds must reach a total of 40 or more. Another rule in this game which adds more excitement is that it players are not allowed to pick up from the discard pile without laying down one or more melds. Winning is the same as Kalooki 51.
Traditional rummy is based on all the variants and the winner is the first player to dispose of all their cards at once. This move is called going rummy. Another way to win this game is to be the first person to get rid of all his cards gradually which is known as going out. In traditional rummy there is no restriction on when you can lay down melds or add matching cards to your existing melds.
That’s it, how to play and win at all rummy variations.

If you haven’t heard of rummy before then this post is definitely for you. Rummy is a skill based card game that has been played worldwide for almost a hundred years. It is extremely popular now and there is even online rummy thanks to the internet. The game itself involves skill and strategy and by mastering these you will improve your chances of winning.
Just to confuse things even further, there are a number of different variations of rummy that can be played too. These rummy variations do however share the same objectives and play structures. Rummy is a game for two or four people but you can get away with up to six people at a push.
Rummy card games both online and offline are played to a fixed number of deals or a target score that you must try to achieve. The target score or the number of deals is something that needs to be determined before you start playing. Whilst the games may vary, all rummy games do contain a certain scoring chart that they all follow.
The objective of rummy games can be broken down into two categories. These are ring games and tournaments. In ring games the objective is to dispose of all your cards by forming as many melds (groups) as possible and then laying them down on the table. In tournaments, you have multi rounds and elimination tournaments. In the multi-round, the objective is to get the highest amount of points possible. In the elimination tournaments you are encouraged to play in such a manner that you eliminate our opponents until you are the last person left on the table and then you win the highest amount of money that is being gambled on the game.
In my next post I will be elaborating on this by explaining how to play all the different variations of rummy games and explaining a little about each and what you need to know in order to win these rummy game variations. The rummy games I will be covering are Gin Rummy, Oklahoma Gin, Kalooki 51, Kalooki 40, and traditional rummy.

Oklahoma Gin is another variation of Gin Rummy. You can have up to four people playing Oklahoma Gin. If you have two players playing then each player gets 10 cards. If you have three or four players then each player gets 7 cards.
The aim of the game is to get rid of all your cards as quickly as possible with the winner being the first person to do so. What you need to do is to meld your cards into sets and runs and lay them aside. The meaning of a set is 3 or 4 cards of the same value and a run is three or more consecutive cards of the same suit.
In order to start the game a player will draw a card from the stock pile or the discarded cards pile and add it to their hand. If they need the card they can keep it and discard one of their other cards.
There are three ways in which you can win in Oklahoma Gin and these are by getting Gin, by Knocking, and by Undercutting. Gin is when you meld all your cards in your hand laying them down on the table and discarding your last card. A knock is when a player will meld all the cards in their hand and the deadwood count that remains is identical to the opening cards face value or lower.
After knocking the other player can then lay down their melds to help reduce their penalty points. An undercut is when this players deadwood count is identical or lower than the knockers and therefore they win.
The winner of the game is the person who has the highest amount of points. If you happen to get Gin you will get the most points as gin gets a player 25 points. A knock will get you 10 points, and an undercut will get you 20 points.
Oklahoma Gin is a fun and exciting game that requires some skill but this is easily learned.

Gin Rummy is a variation on the traditional rummy game and it is a game for 2 players only. In order to win you must get 100 or 250 points. There are a number of ways of getting this score and the first one I want to tell you about is going gin.
Going gin is probably the most difficult scoring method and you can do this by putting all your cards into combinations. If you can do this you will receive 25 points plus the sum of whatever your opponent has failed to put into combinations often referred to as deadwood.
Even if you intend on going gin you must pick up or discard a card before doing so.
The next method is called knocking. This method can be used instead of putting all your cards into combinations. If you have put all your cards into combinations but some remain and the value of them is less than 10 you can knock and then place your cards down on the table.
Once you knock play stops. Your score is then calculated from your deadwood cards. If your opponents deadwood is greater than yours you get the difference between the two. Sometimes however you opponent can outdo you when you knock because there are additional ways that he can get rid of his/her deadwood. Your opponent can add his loose cards to your combinations and this can further reduce his score. If his score is less than yours he gets the points.
Oklahoma Gin is a little bit different and in this game you can only knock if your deadwood cards are less than or equal to the initial upcard. If the upcard happened to be an ace then knocking is not allowed and you can only go out by going Gin.
When it comes to knocking you should try to do it early in the game because the longer the games goes on the harder it will be to win when knocking.
That’s really all there is to it so be sure to practice your strategies and get ready to go online and win some cash rewards for playing online Gin Rummy.

Rummy is a very popular games and online rummy is really taking off. Rummy has a lot of variations and Kalooki is one of them. This online rummy variation is very popular in the UK and the main difference in this game of rummy is that two of the jokers act as wild cards.
If you are new to Kalooki there are a few things that you will need to know and this post will focus on giving you the basics needed to help you master the game.
In Kalooki you will play with a deck of 106 cards which means that there will be two of each card and this includes the jokers too. You will be aiming to draw the right cards whilst discarding of the cards that you don’t want. When discarding cards you should try to make sure that they won’t be of use to other players either. You need to watch what other players are doing too and be keeping your eye on their on what they pick up and discard you can learn a lot about the hand they have.
In Kalooki your aim as a player is to meld a total count of 51 or more points. Building your melds or matching cards is common practice in Kalooki and it is worth noting that when you discard cards you should try not to create opportunities for your opponents. One big tip I can give you is that if you happen to meld a joker be sure to make good use of it.
The main strategy that you need to perfect is that of watching what your opponent does and making sure that when you discard cards they can’t make use of them. Remember if you want to be able to shout “Go Kalooki” you need to make sure you know the rules and you perfect your rummy strategies.
